Four years after establishing operations in Mexico, Tunisian cable and wire manufacturer COFICAB Group will invest US$ 50 million to open its third plant in the country, this time in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, state officials announced.

This new facility, in addition to those that COFICAB already operates in the cities of Durango, state capital and Silao, Guanajuato, will begin operations in September to provide raw material to automotive harness manufacturers in the region.

According to Hichem Elloumi, executive director of COFICAB, the production site in Juarez will be the company’s second largest, only behind that of Portugal, of the eleven facilities in seven countries that comprise its global footprint.

"Juarez is the apex for the global automotive wiring activity, and we supply global customers; Ciudad Juárez is very important for the automotive industry. We find talented people, technicians and engineers, and for us it is the best place to settle," he said.

The plant will be located in the Intermex Sur Industrial Park, where it will open 300 jobs positions to manufacture three million kilometers of cable annually with expected sales of US$ 250 million.
