Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the first Model 3 Performance Dual Motor rolled out of a new assembly line during the weekend. His update, via Twitter comes just a month after Tesla opened orders for the high-performance version of its smallest electric car.

The Model 3 Performance came out earlier than expected. In a series of tweets back in April, Musk stated that the Performance and the Dual Motor AWD variant of the vehicle would be introduced in July.

According to Musk’s tweet, the Tesla team was able to set up the assembly line for the new Model 3 in just three weeks using “minimal resources.”

Musk previously revealed that the Performance trim will feature 20-inch wheels, carbon fiber spoiler, all for a starting price of US$ 78,000 (no AutoPilot included). That’s higher than a BMW M3 (US$ 66,500 for the base model), but it's supposedly 15% quicker (3.5 seconds 0-60, 155 mile-per-hour top speed, 310 miles of range) and better handling. It “will beat anything in its class on the track," Elon promised.

According to Monroney sticker in the regular Model 3, 25% of its 10,000 unique parts are manufactured in Mexico. However, we've yet to see how much changes the equation with all the new features.
