VW Golf production halts in Puebla plant due to engine transition

From last Friday to next Wednesday, the Golf production line at the Volkswagen plant in Puebla will be idled due to the change of engines in most variants of the 2019 model, the auto workers union announced over the weekend.
The measure will affect about 550 workers, who will receive 100% of their salary in case they choose to cede vacation days. Those who do not want to spend their vacation days or have already exhausted them will receive 50% of their salary, said their leader, Rey David Garcia Avendano, before local media during a press conference.
Some local news sites reported that the stoppage was due to the lack of enough engines for the 2019 models, but this rumor was denied by the union itself, who said that there were technical aspects pending to be solved, specifically related to some certifications.
The German automaker announced in recent days that the 2019 models will feature smaller engines in order to increase gas mileage.
The production of the Golf will resume next Thursday, while the Jetta, Beetle and Tiguan models continue to be manufactured without setbacks, the union said.
