Mazda Motor Corporation announced that, as of July of this year, its “North American operations” produced 179,436 vehicles for the current year, which represents an increase of 14.9%, compared to the same seven months of last year.

This result occurred despite the fact that, for those seven months, production was reduced by almost half, 46.1%, totaling only 17,150 units.

Mazda's solely manufacturing operations in North America are located in Salamanca, Guanajuato, where the Japanese automaker builds the Mazda3 and the Mazda2 in hatchback and sedan versions. This latest version is also produced for Toyota and rebranded as Yaris sedan for the U.S. market.

The company is currently in the process of building a second plant in Alabama in a joint venture with Toyota. The facility is expected to begin operations by the end of 2019.
