Lucid Motors customers will get access to Volkswagen’s ultra-fast charging network

After securing a US$ 1 billion investment from a Saudi Arabia fund, Lucid Motors has now announced it entered into a preliminary agreement with Volkswagen’s electric charging company Electrify America to provide its customers a nationwide charging plan.
By the end of June of 2019, Electrify America will install or have under construction over 2,000 DC ultra-fast chargers at nearly 500 sites in metro and highway locations across 40 states and 17 major cities. The company claims it would provide charge for a 20-mile range in a minute, meaning that a fully-optioned Lucid Air with a 400-mile range will secure a full charge in 20 minutes.
Lucid said it has selected Electrify America after an extensive evaluation and cited Electrify America’s DC power levels of up to 350kW and network coverage as key selection criteria. It was also attracted by Electrify America’s premium charging experience, providing EV drivers with safe and convenient charging locations that offer amenities like shopping, food and restrooms.

Electrify America is investing US$ 2 billion over ten years in zero emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure, education, and awareness initiatives to help drive ZEV adoption. “Electrify America is proud to provide Lucid and its customers with our ultra-fast charging,” said Giovanni Palazzo, President and CEO, Electrify America. “Our nationwide network of high-powered chargers is a great match with the EV technology offered by Lucid and a further opportunity to expand electric vehicle adopion in the U.S.”
Production of Lucid’s first vehicle, the Lucid Air sedan, will begin at the company’s assembly plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, in 2020 by taking advantage of the Arizona-Sonora Megaregion, a logistic and supply chain platform jointly developed by authorities from both states to offer companies shared resources that would boost their competitiveness and growth.
