The Japanese automaker Mazda will begin to deliver in the coming days the first units of the next-generation Mazda3 in Mexico.
These units are imported from Japan while the plant located in Salamanca, Guanajuato, continues with the necessary adjustments to start the production of the vehicle––only in the sedan version––on Mexican soil.
Miguel Barbeyto, CEO of Mazda Mexico, said in recent days to Reforma (subscription required) that during the special pre-sale in December 1,000 units were offered, of which 80% was acquired in the first 10 days. According to the manager, 70% of Mexican customers opted for the sedan version.
Worldwide, 6 million units of the Mazda3 have been sold, of which 30% have been marketed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
“The Mazda3 has been, since the first generation, the best-selling product in our portfolio and has managed to earn a very special place in people's taste. Today, it represents 30% of total sales worldwide; it is a very emotional car,” said Barbeyto.
