Volkswagen of America announced that two vehicles manufactured in Mexico have been awarded by different entities for their value and ability to best meet the needs for car buyers in the U.S. market.
First, the Volkswagen Beetle was awarded top vehicle in the compact category of the Vincentric’s Best Value in America Awards.
The awards are model-specific honors reflecting Vincentric’s determination of which vehicles represent the best value in each segment. Vincentric determines value using a statistical analysis that incorporates the current market price and total cost-of-ownership of all 2019 model year vehicles.
Vincentric measures cost-of-ownership using eight different cost factors: depreciation, fees & taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost and repairs. Using a statistical model, Vincentric identified the Best Value in America winners by measuring which vehicles had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price. More than 3,000 vehicle configurations were evaluated in all 50 states plus D.C. using a range of annual mileage intervals and insurance profiles.
“Volkswagen products showed strong performance in our awards this year” said David Wurster, Vincentric President. “Having the lowest maintenance cost in its class helped the Beetle earn our top honor.”
The 2019 model year is the last for the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most iconic cars in the world. As production ends later this year, the Beetle lineup adds two Final Edition models—inspired by the first-generation Beetle’s final run in Puebla, Mexico, where the vehicle is assembled—alongside the S and SE models. Prices start at US$ 20,895 for the Beetle S with automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Golf SportWagen was named Best Wagon in the 2019 AutoWeb Buyer’s Choice Awards for its practicality and performance. The awards represent the most in-demand vehicle in each category, based on price quote requests submitted on AutoWeb’s network of automotive websites.

The Buyer’s Choice Awards are compiled from price quote data from more than 120 million consumers who visited AutoWeb's network of automotive websites from October 2017 to October 2018, compared to all other vehicles in their competitive sets. Data in 17 car shopping sub-categories was analyzed for these awards.
The 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen is the only German-engineered mass-market wagon on sale in the U.S. The vehicle comes standard with a 1.8-liter, 170hp engine, is available in three trim levels—S, SE, and SEL—and offers available 4Motion all-wheel drive. MSRP starts at US$21,685.
The Volkswagen Golf SportWagen for the U.S. market is also sourced from the automakers plant in Puebla.
