Earlier this week, Daimler Trucks North America started production of the New Cascadia Class 8 truck for the Mexican market at its plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, president and CEO of Daimler Commercial Vehicles in Mexico, Flavio Rivera, revealed to Transporte y Turismo magazine.
According to the official, the first units will be available in show rooms by the end of March, a time when the first deliveries for customers who pre-ordered the new tractor truck will also take place.
Back in November, Daimler unveiled the New Cascadia for Mexico before representatives of around 700 freight companies. Rivera revealed that 300 orders were made right after the ceremony.
The New Cascadia was launched in the United States almost two years ago and since then Daimler has been building those units at the Saltillo Truck manufacturing plant. But then the company started a tropicalization process in order to adapt the New Cascadia to the Mexican market.
The unit has a fuel consumption between 8% and 15% more efficient, thanks in large part to aerodynamic improvements, resulting in substantial savings for carriers, since diesel accounts for up to 57% of operation costs.
“By conceiving this truck our objective is to lower the cost of operation and as a result the new Cascadia is the tractor truck with the highest technology, the most profitable, the safest and the most comfortable in the Mexican market,” said Rivera.
