MEXICO – Volkswagen de México (VW) confirmed an investment worth US$2,500 million in the country, and announced that, as a consequence of the USMCA’s ratification, the company will increase its supply in Puebla in order to produce a new SUV next year.
This was ratified by Steffen Reiche, Volkswagen de México's executive chairman, before the governor of Puebla, Guillermo Pacheco Pulido, during a working meeting with German executives to consolidate agreements on more investment and security, as well as to provide labor peace.
Auto parts companies will keep their investments and new projects in Puebla after the end of the Beetle model’s production in the Volkswagen plant, although now they develop engineering for the new parts of the vehicle that the German automaker will launch in 2020, so risks of personnel cut have been ruled out.
During said meeting it was clarified that there would be no rearrangement of personnel, because the new truck requires talent and workforce; it is expected that there will be production adjustments because of this new model, while auto parts companies are ready to supply VW.
