Aluminum products manufacturer shifts production from Kentucky to Juarez, Mexico

Werner Co., a manufacturer of ladders, tool boxes and other aluminum products, will shutter its plant in Jeffersontown, Kentucky by March of 2019 and transfer the work to one of its facilities in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

The Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement that the move is due to “pressures”. However, the document does not directly cite the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on aluminum and steel as the cause of the closure.

The plant employs 118 workers whose layoffs will begin no sooner than Oct. 9, according to the notice.
