Kenworth increases output at Mexicali plant to 60 heavy trucks per hour

Kenworth’s Mexican subsidiary revealed it has increased its heavy truck production by up to 60 vehicles per hour at the plant located in Mexicali, Baja California, to satisfy national demand as well as Central and South American markets.

Interviewed by El Financiero during the Expo Transporte 2017, Renato Villalpando, director of Kenworth Mexicana, said they expect to close 2017 will more than 26,000 units sold and a 35.7% market share in Mexico.

The executive highlighted that the company was the first to innovate in the design of the cars, and now it is ahead of its time in adapting to technological changes with engines that provide better performance.

"In 1987 we were the spearhead with our T800 model, and from there our whole family of products began to grow with aerodynamic lines, with lower chests and bodies that direct the air to the sides," he added.

As of June, Kenworth has sold more than 7,000 Class 8 units directly to the customer, not to the distributors.

The best-selling models are the T680 and T880 with intelligent driving systems that anticipate mishaps, and alert the driver of an erratic operation; they also resolve the so-called blind spots and help prevent criminal acts with satellite transmitters that alert of detours and allow truck locating in a matter of seconds.

Villalpando added that the Kenworth manufacturing complex has been operating for 60 years and was recently equipped with robotic equipment and automated processes to work with greater precision.
