Lucid Motors is working on an electric SUV and the company may reveal its design as soon as this summer, according to a new report by The Verge citing as sources two people familiar with the company’s plans.

Questioned on the matter, the website talked to Lucid’s Chief Technology Officer Peter Rawlinson who said it was “quite possible” the electric car startup could unveil SUV plans later this year. However, the other two sources claimed the company has indeed already started working on the second vehicle.

“We have a plan for future models in mind, and we can hopefully be in a position to clarify that plan later this year,” Rawlinson said. “Certainly, with Lucid Air platform, we have a platform that is ideally suited for more vehicles than just the Air. And, of course, we want to exploit that.”

According to the report, the push to develop a second car came in part from the Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which last year provided US$1 billion in funds to move forward with production plans.
