Metalor Technologies, a Switzerland-based company specialized in management of precious metals for different kinds of industries announced it will consolidate production work from its Electrotechnics division at a facility located in San Luis Potosi. The measure implies the closure of a manufacturing facility in the community of Export, Pennsylvania, with 121 workers.
The Pennsylvania plant processes and refines metals such as gold, platinum, palladium and silver for the manufacture of circuit breakers, switches and relays. According to local media, the company notified workers in 2015 that it would move operations within about two years.
Metalor inaugurated in October 2015 a 5,000 square-feet facility at the Millenium industrial park in San Luis Potosi. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, company officials announced an expansion was already in the works to increase its footprint to 11,500 square feet.
“This expansion will enable Metalor to be fully vertically integrated in Mexico for the production of Electrical contacts. From the powder mixing operation to the assembly of complex products, Metalor Mexico will be in a position to propose to its customers its full range of products locally made in Mexico. Its satisfies as well the growing requests from North American customers to source more parts out of Mexico,” said the company at the time.
The closure in Pennsylvania is scheduled to begin December 29 and is expected to conclude in June 2018. The company owns additional U.S. locations in Massachusetts and Michigan.
