Cargo handling by Mexican airlines grow at double-digit rate

Mexican airlines reported double-digit growth in air cargo handling during the January-August 2018 period, according to official data.

In the current year, airlines mobilized 234,142 tons, which meant a growth of 23% compared to 190,236 tons in the same period in 2017, according to figures released by the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC).

In the eight months of the year, 64% of the traffic was provided by the Regular International Service which totaled 150,351 tons, resulting in an increase of 26% compared to 119,053 tons last year.

In this area, the three airlines that had more participation were Aerounion with an accumulated of 59,407 tons, 54% more than the 38,435 thousand tons of the previous year.

It was followed by Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect, which together totaled 52,558 tons, resulting in a rise of 16% compared to 45,060 tons in the previous year, while the third largest airline in this segment was Mas Air with 33,455 tons 7% more than the 31,348 tons in the previous year.
