Mexican airlines transport 2.6 million travelers

MEXICO –  During September, the eight Mexican commercial airlines there are, transported, between domestic and international routes, a total of 2,614,973 passengers, according to statistics from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).

This represented an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous month. For their part, foreign airlines operating in Mexico transported a total of 668,189 passengers, led by U.S. companies, which took 94% of the segment, with 633,457 total passengers.

Among the national airlines in the domestic market, Volaris led in the number of passengers transported with more than 968,000 travelers. However, for the low-cost airline, this figure represented the worst growth in the last four months.

Between May and June, Volaris almost tripled its total passengers; between June and July, it almost doubled this figure, while in the last two months, growth has been much more moderate. In second place, by the number of passengers transported in the domestic market, Viva Aerobus was placed, with 630,833, followed by Grupo Aeroméxico, which carried 609,369 passengers. For its part, Interjet transported 41,547 passengers, an increase of almost 3,000 passengers compared to the previous month.

Magnicharters transported 30,615; Aeromar 20,552; TAR carried 11,615 and Aéreo Calafia caried 4,853 passengers.

In the international segment, Volaris transported 173,956 passengers, followed by Grupo Aeroméxico with 87,971, Viva Aerobus with 34,498 and Aeromar with 819 passengers.

During September, American Airlines carried 185,478 passengers, however, in the last two months its total number of passengers has fallen, since it reached a peak of 200,493 in July.

Delta Air Lines, on the other hand, continues to rise in passenger transport in the country, exceeding 120,000 passengers in September. United Airlines also carried 123,526 passengers.

The air market between Mexico and the United States continues to be 57% depressed compared to the numbers presented in 2019. So far this year, there has been a passenger flow of 9,880,000 passengers between the two countries.
