The chocolate industry in Mexico generates around US$1.3 billion annually, according the director of the National Association of Manufacturers of Chocolates, Sweets and Others, Jorge Castañeda Alba.
As part of the inauguration of the Salon Chocolate y Cacao at the World Trade Center, he explained that this sector generates almost 33,000 jobs for the country, which lead to almost US$235 million per year.
"It's an emblematic industry and it’s sad sometimes that we do not take pride in Mexico. Both cocoa and chocolate are among the few things we inherited from the world," he said.
He added that Mexico exports significant amounts of chocolate to the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and Italy.
