Mexican government to invest in electric cars with “Olinia”.
MEXICO - The Mexican government mentioned the creation of Olinia, the first national electric vehicle assembly plant designed by Mexican engineers. The project seeks to revolutionize urban mobility by offering accessible, sustainable and safe solutions for millions of citizens.
According to Roberto Capuano Tripp, in charge of the Sustainable Development Project for the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Mexico City, the main objective is the production of three types of electric vehicles based on a multipurpose platform.
Likewise, Capuano emphasized that the images presented during the conference were only illustrative, since the design of the car will be one of the first tasks to be carried out by those involved in the project.
The project proposes a production chain based on collaboration between the government and private companies, with a focus on national design and the regionalization of assemblers to reduce logistics costs.
He also pointed out that these vehicles, depending on the model, will be priced between US$4,422 and US$7,371 and that the first car will be used in the inauguration of the World Cup on June 11 at the Azteca Stadium.
It will be one of the most affordable electric cars on the market, positioning it as a direct rival to foreign models such as the Chinese BYD Dolphin Mini.
This project promises to be a more economical option for Mexican families, combined with sustainability, and seeks to democratize access to electric cars in the country to allow more people to join electric mobility.
