Mexico and ASU Strengthen the Semiconductor Industry
Mexico and Arizona State University (ASU) have signed a new partnership to enhance talent development, technological advancement, and the integration of supply chains linked to the semiconductor industry in North America.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, and Michael M. Crow, president of Arizona State University. This document establishes a framework for developing specific projects in specialized training, technology, and collaboration between academia and industry, primarily to build the capabilities needed to expand the region’s participation in the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging of semiconductors in the long term.
This partnership builds on the strong relationship established in 2022, when ASU and the Mexican Embassy in the United States signed the first memorandum of understanding to promote workforce development, education, and collaboration with Mexican institutions involved in microelectronics.
“We need to work together on the development of human capital, technological development, manufacturing, and the security of supply chains,” Michael Crow said during the signing ceremony.
Cooperation between the two nations aims to integrate educational capabilities with a North American supply chain that includes design, manufacturing, materials, equipment, encapsulation, testing, and specialized suppliers.
Mexico and ASU will now define the specific projects to be developed under the new collaboration, based on their respective responsibilities and available resources. The document reflects a collaboration that has primarily focused on training and talent development, opening the door to new technology projects and industry partnerships.
