Mexico-based centrifugal pump manufacturer RuhRPumpen has set up a new plant at Vallam Sipcot Industrial estate in Chennai, India, where the company now builds solutions for the petrochemical, mining, manufacturing, energy, chemicals and waste water managing industries.

The company started manufacturing various types of pumps in a rented unit near Chennai. Then company officials decided to invest US$25 million aimed to start operations at a new facility. Additional investments are planned to reach a total US$ 50 million over the next five years.

The new facility comprises 10,000 square meters of manufacturing space and 700 square meters of office space. It also has the latest pump performance testing capacity, which was not present in its rented premise.

“We want to explore opportunities in India because of the advantages it provides. India is becoming much more accepted as a manufacturing space surpassing China,” said Cesar Elizondo Garza, RuhRPumpen’s chairman. Elizondo added that Chennai was chosen for its local supply chain, manpower resources along with sea and air logistics serving overseas locations.

“Nearly 80% of products manufactured from the Chennai plant will be exported to clients in Middle East, West Asia and South-East Asia, and the remaining sold in the domestic market,” noted Garza.

The company started operations in 1950 at the neighborhood of Annen in Witten, Germany under the name of RuhRPumpen GmbH Wende & Hentschel. It was in 1997 that Cesar A. Elizondo Villarreal, founder of the Mexican family company Corporacion EG, together with Canadian financial partners, acquired RuhRPumpen GmbH. Elizondo became the first Mexican entrepreneur ever to invest in a German industrial undertaking.

After the transaction was completed, a series of capital investments, acquisitions, new product development and a strong focus on customer needs boosted RuhRPumpen to become a global supplier of highly engineered pumping technologies and related products.

RuhRPumpen currently operates manufacturing facilities in Mexico (Monterrey), United States (Oklahoma), Germany, Brazil, Argentina, China, India, United Kingdom, Egypt and Russia. Parent company Corporacion EG is based in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon.
