Mexico needs multidisciplinary expertise to boost its space industry

MEXICO - Mexico not only needs space engineers to boost the aerospace industry, but also experts from other areas to consider this sector as an opportunity for their careers.

Professionals such as administrators, lawyers and specialists in other fields can contribute significantly, said space engineer Luis Enrique Velasco, CEO of Space Zero Gravity.

“We're definitely going to need a lot more people. If you are interested in the subject, even if you are a graduate or a lawyer, we are going to need all those profiles,” commented the space expert during a webinar.

Velasco stressed that professionals dedicated to the space sector must collaborate with other disciplines, since in this field it is absolutely essential. In addition, he stressed the importance of learning to work in teams.

“They are going to be other experts and you have to be able to work with them,” said the engineer.

The expert pointed out that, nowadays, research in the space industry involves scientists, suppliers and other professionals, often coming from different countries and cultures. This fosters teamwork and ensures that all collaborators in this sector can perform adequately.

For Enrique Velasco, Mexico has a great opportunity to develop in the space field.

“Today there really is the possibility of space for Mexico,” he said.

He pointed out that NASA has shown interest in Mexico in recent years and that this is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of April authorities from the space agency met with Mexican authorities.
