Mexico ranks first as an exporter of computer equipment to the U.S.
Mexico recorded a record 36.8% share of U.S. computer equipment imports in the first half of 2026, ranking as the top foreign supplier to that market, according to data from the Department of Commerce.
In the first seven months of the year, Mexican exports of computer products reached US$90.8 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 96.3%.
This trend is unique in recent decades, as this product is not one of Mexico’s major exports. Furthermore, production lacks a solid network of local suppliers.
The peak reached a high baseline due to the increase in Mexican exports of computer equipment to the U.S. market, rising to 84.8% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching US$90.7 billion.
The manufactured goods category includes the manufacture of electronic computers, the production of computer storage devices, and the manufacture of terminals and other computer peripherals.
Between January and July of this year, Mexican exports have continued to perform well despite the uncertainty associated with changes in international trade policy.
During the first half of the year, exports totaled US$471.3 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 27.7%. This result was driven primarily by manufacturing exports—mostly automotive—with the computer and electronics sectors standing out.
The electronic computer manufacturing industry encompasses the assembly of servers, personal computers, and mainframes. Notable U.S. companies include Dell Technologies, Lenovo, and IBM, which integrate processors, memory, and storage into final products.
For its part, the storage device manufacturing industry produces magnetic, optical, and flash storage devices, such as hard drives, USB flash drives, and backup tapes. Some leading companies in this sector include EMC Corporation, Toshiba, and Seagate Technology.
Finally, the computer terminals and peripherals manufacturing industry includes the production of peripheral equipment (excluding storage) and terminals. Among the most established U.S. companies in this sector are Cisco Systems, Logitech, NCR Corporation, and Xerox Holdings.
