Mexico ranks fourth in robot imports
In 2016, Mexico positioned itself as the fourth major importer of industrial robots with the acquisition of US$ 158 million worth of these devices, says a report by Mexican media citing figures by the World Trade Organization.
The first place went to China with US$ 878 million, followed by Germany with US$ 346 million and the United States with US$ 291 million.
Mexican robot imports in 2016 were considerably lower compared to the US$ 437 million observed in 2015, a record figure that placed the country in second place that year, just behind China with US$ 802 million.
Mexico’s robot imports were higher in 2015 partly because of the purchases made by Kia, as part of the investment to set up an assembly plant in Nuevo Leon.
