Without a doubt, Donald Trump's ascension to power in the US has caused an environment of uncertainty in terms of his insistence in imposing different protectionist policies that have put the US relation with Mexico in a "push and pull" situation. Now, six months afterward, the river is re-taking its normal course, but the renegotiation of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is still pending, which is why the negotiation tables will be set up this August 16th. Mario Chacon, head of the Global Business Promotion Unit from ProMexico, underscored that the relation with US and Canada goes beyond a purely commercial relation, which is why even in an adverse NAFTA modernization scenario, this relation would not disappear.
