Mexico to lead Latin American space mission in 2027

MEXICO - Mexico will lead a space mission that contemplates the participation of several Latin American countries in 2027, this was confirmed by Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinator of the Advisory Council for Regional Economic Development and Business Relocation of the Mexican government.

During President Claudia Sheinbaum's press conference, Altagracia commented that Jalisco-born Katya Echazarreta, who is an astronaut and electrical engineer, will participate in said mission.

Gómez also informed about the 100% Mexican satellite that will be launched into space for telecommunications tasks, thus, she said that the government will be working hand in hand with the private initiative and the academy to boost the Mexican aerospace industry.

“We have three key projects: one is to lead the first 100% Latin mission into space. We will do this hand in hand with astronaut Katya and the idea is that it will be in 2027; two, the integration of the complete engine in Mexico, which today is precisely the announcement of the large investment by the Safran group, and three, the 100% Mexican satellite that the President has announced," she said.

Gómez Sierra added that among the goals for 2030, aerospace industry exports must increase by at least 10% in local content, which is easy to say, but in terms of the amount of investment it represents an important achievement.
