Android Industries LLC, a supplier of just-in-time assembly, tooling and equipment solutions, inaugurated a new plant at the Cerritos industrial park in the municipality of Silao, Guanajuato, to provide assembled modules for General Motors.

The Michigan-based company plans to invest US$21 million in two stages to supply spare tire, central console and radiator modules for the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra program that takes place at GM’s assembly facility also located in Silao. Android’s workforce at the site is expected to reach 287 strong once the plant is fully operational.

The company operates 23 plants located in the NAFTA region, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Turkey and China. Besides the Silao plant, Android also serves FCA in Toluca, state of Mexico, and Ford in Hermosillo, Sonora.

At the opening ceremony, Android officials said they’re interested in new business opportunities with other automakers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Toyota and Michelin, which are slated to begin manufacturing operations in Guanajuato in the near future.
