Mario Alfonso Cantu Suarez, Mining Sub-secretary of the Ministry of Economy, informed that gold, silver copper and zinc exports, among other metals, surpassed US$15 billion, becoming the fourth sector with the most income earned in Mexico; half of those minerals are sold in the US. Over 85% of the production comes from Sonora, Zacatecas, Durango, Chihuahua and Coahuila, with production of precious metals (gold, silver), basic (copper, lead, iron and zinc) and non-metalic minerals.
