More than 700 workers opt for voluntary leave at Volkswagen Puebla plant

Volkswagen de Mexico and its union announced that more than 700 people accepted one of the three voluntary leave options that the German automaker offered to the workers of its assembly plant in Puebla in order to readjust its workforce.
The union leader Mariano Bueno Sánchez said in a statement that the deadline for his colleagues to accept any of the three proposals ended on Friday, March 29. Bueno declined to give the precise number of workers who accepted each of the proposals.
It should be remembered that the company offered a two-year temporary leave, in which workers will receive 1 full year of salary, as well as its benefits. The employee will be rehired at the end of the 2 years of absence and will be placed in the same or similar process if it’s feasible.
The second scheme offered by the company was the definitive voluntary retirement, with a settlement equivalent to 200% with respect to a higher salary group to which they belonged, plus a bonus of US$20,000.
The third alternative for the workers was a transfer, either to the Audi plant in San Jose Chiapa, or to the engine plant in Silao, Guanajuato, although there is no guarantee that their new work will be permanent.
In this case, employees would also receive a 200% settlement with respect to a higher salary group to which they belonged.
