New car sales grow by 12% in first half of 2024

MEXICO - In the first half of 2024, new car sales in Mexico rose 12% to 708,650 units, according to official figures. In the period from January to June 2023, 633,087 units were sold.

In June alone, 122,929 new cars were sold, which represents an increase of 8.3% compared to the number of units sold in the same month last year.

Guillermo Rosales Zarate, executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), said that the light vehicle market in June was higher than estimated.

AMDA's forecast for new car sales in June was 115,975 units, so the estimate had a percentage difference of -5.7%.

With respect to the immediately preceding month, in June light vehicle sales grew 2.5%, added Rosales.

Finally, in a pre-pandemic comparison, June sales were 15.1% above the 106,782 units placed in June 2019, added the representative of the country's new car dealers.
