New car sales in Mexico records its best January since 2017

MEXICO - The automotive industry continues to consolidate its recovery and started 2024 in positive territory. During the first month of the year, 112,100 new cars were sold in the Mexican market, the best result for a January since 2017.

This level of sales also implied a growth of 18.7% compared to the same month last year, according to the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) reports released by Inegi.

This growth is in line with the results of 2023, a year of good dynamism for the automotive assembly sector. Significant growth was recorded, not only in domestic sales, but also in total production and exports.

During the beginning of the year, the Japanese company Nissan maintained its position as leader in new car sales in the domestic market. During January, it sold 19,970 units.

On the other hand, U.S. General Motors and German Volkswagen occupied the second and third positions in the top of sales. They sold 15,459 and 10,695 new vehicles, respectively.

Figures for the total number of light vehicles assembled in the country, as well as the total number of units shipped abroad, will be published in the next few days. Specialists expect growth to be recorded, as well as in the heavy vehicle industry.
