French auto parts manufacturer Faurecia announced it plans to start operations at a new facility in Guanajuato by the end of 2017. The company invested US$ 48 million to set up this plant, located in the municipality of San Jose Iturbide.

According to company officials the production site will create around 700 permanent jobs. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled in the first quarter of 2018.

The facility will be Faurecia’s 16th plant in the country and the company’s fourth dedicated to exhaust systems and emissions control technologies in Mexico. One of the main features in this production site will be its highly-automated processes, said a company speaker.

All three Faurecia’s divisions have operations in Mexico, that means a total 1,800 jobs will open in the coming months due to expansion plans for the exhaust systems, interiors and seating business.

Along with the new site in Guanajuato, Faurecia works on expanding operations at a facility in Queretaro. The new production lines will add 100 permanent jobs to the plant, which currently employs 450 workers.

The company also plans to inaugurate next month new production lines in Puebla to supply seats for Audi and other customers.

Two R & D centers located in Puebla and Mexico City respectively are also part of Faurecia’s footprint in the country.
