Monterrey, Mexico,- Praxair, the US manufacturer and supplier of gases for industrial and pharmaceutical purposes has finished a new industrial complex in Altamira, Tamaulipas, with an investment close to US$50 million.

In an interview, Murilo Melo, President and CEO, Praxair Mexico, informed that the complex consists of three segments, where plans are to meet gas consumption needs of chemical, petrochemical, construction and medicine industries established at states in northern Mexico, especially Tamaulipas and Veracruz.

The first segment is a high purity nitrogen plant, with a 22 miles gas main. The second segment is a hydrogen plant for direct consumption by Posco, the steel manufacturer, an important customer of Praxair all over the world.

The third segment, which was opened last month, is a cylinder-canned gases plant, which required US$15 million in investment and which will be used in the distribution of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, among others.

“The company is very interested in Mexico’s growth and potential and, in spite of the crisis, Praxair is putting its money on Mexico”, Melo said.
Praxair has 4 emerging regions which are priorities in their global growth portfolio: Brazil, China, India and Mexico”, he pointed-out.
