Oaxaca seeks to strengthen air connectivity

OAXACA - The Ministry of Tourism of the state of Oaxaca and the airline Viva Aerobús announced a new route connecting Puerto Escondido with Guadalajara, as well as an increase in the frequency of the Monterrey-Oaxaca-Monterrey flight.

The agency explained the importance of air connectivity as an essential element for the economic, social and tourist development of the state's destinations.

It also pointed out that the attractions, the hospitality of the Oaxacan people and the millenary culture have made Oaxaca one of the first travel options for national and international tourists.

Viva Aerobús announced that as of December 3, it will operate the new Guadalajara-Puerto Escondido-Guadalajara route, which will have three weekly frequencies: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

In addition, in an effort to further improve connectivity and contribute to consolidating the state's destinations, the Monterrey-Oaxaca-Monterrey route will go from operating four times a week to daily flights as of November 1.

According to local information, this is in addition to the 10 routes that operate in the state's three airports, with destinations to Mexico City (at Mexico City International Airport and Felipe Angeles International Airport), Monterrey and Tijuana. In 2023, more than 1 million passengers were transported, and from January to July of this year, more than 725,000.

So far this year, the airline has registered 2,328 frequencies, with an average occupancy rate of 77.14 percent.
