Partnership Between Volaris and Elon Musk

The Mexican low-cost airline is working alongside entrepreneur Elon Mosk to equip its entire fleet of A320 and A321 aircraft with satellite internet.

According to reports from the airline, new flights are expected to offer high-speed internet via the Starlink service, a satellite company developed by SpaceX, with the aim of providing Wi-Fi on flights. Indigo Partners has been one of the companies leading the initiative to support the implementation of Starlink technology among the airlines in its portfolio.

Starlink provides access to its satellite network. The technology known as LEO (Low Earth Orbit) offers high-speed internet with low latency given that its satellites are closer to Earth than typical ones, resulting in faster response times when sending and receiving data. This makes it possible to use services that require a stable connection to function immediately.

Enrique Beltranena, Volaris’s CEO and president, has emphasized that the Starlink service will provide customers with the quality they need to use streaming platforms, make video calls, listen to music online, and work while on board the aircraft, from start to finish.

The entire fleet of 150 aircraft will provide passengers with unlimited access to internet service, supported and managed by the Starlink direct system.

It should also be noted that this internet system will be installed not only by Volaris, but also in the United States, Europe, South America, and the Philippines, by companies in the Indigo Partners portfolio.
