The pet food industry demonstrated a growth of 12.4% during the first semester of 2018, compared to the same period of 2017.

According to the ISCAM indicator, seven out of ten households have a pet. The market trend in Mexico points to small breeds, which has driven the consumption of bulk food.

The director of the Groceries Department of ISCAM, Rolando Contreras, mentioned that one of the factors that allowed the economic increase of this processed food category is that corner stores, for the most part, sell the product according to weight.

He pointed out that, during the first six months of 2018, sales of dog food grew 10.8%, while cat food grew 19.7% in comparison to the same period of 2017.
