REYNOSA – The Pharr International Bridge, which connects the city of Reynosa with Hidalgo, Texas, will invest US$30 million between 2019 and 2020 in five infrastructure projects to offer a better service to the business community of Northeast Mexico.

Luiz Bazán, director of this border crossing, explained that some of their objectives are to facilitate two entry and exit lanes to the United States, as well as an expansion of the platform for dry and cold rooms, and an agricultural center, since the Mexican avocado enters through this bridge in order to be delivered to the entire American Union.

"We have five infrastructure projects and by 2020 all must be completed," stated Bazán.

Mexican auto parts, televisions and avocados enter the United States through this crossing, while gasoline, monitors and auto parts go from the United States to Mexico.

Unlike other bridges, the Pharr is more commercial than tourist, since the access for tourists has a schedule from 6 am to 8 am, and from 4 pm to 12 midnight. Therefore, from 8 am to 4 am, it only handles the crossing of merchandise, both import and export. The strongest export handled by Mexico through this bridge is avocado and strawberries, but also television monitors and electrical equipment.

From the United States to Mexico, the Pharr bridge ranks 1st place in the crossing of hydrocarbons such as diesel and gasoline, as well as auto parts and electrical products.

This bridge will soon be enabled to carry out joint inspection between Customs personnel from Mexico and the United States, which will expedite the crossing of trucks.

Of the bridges located in the northeast region of the country, only the International Bridge of Colombia, Nuevo Leon, is authorized to carry out joint inspections, which allows a trailer to cross in 15 minutes, when it would take 3 to 6 hours through Nuevo Laredo.
