Color and additives manufacturer for the plastic industry Techmer PM announced plans for its first facility in Mexico.

The Tennessee-based company provided few details in a news release announcing the move. Officials confirmed that the Mexican plant will open in the second half of 2017 and will have enough capacity to serve Mexico and key Latin American markets. The facility's location remains undisclosed.

The new site also will enable Techmer to support the expansion of automotive companies with operations in Mexico as well as other strategic growth areas.

“Techmer PM has built a strong presence in Mexico over the years as an exporter,” President Ryan Howley said. “We are excited about the opportunity to further existing customer relationships as well as cultivate new business opportunities locally.”

The Mexico expansion project will be headed by Guillermo Quijano, who was recently hired as general manager for Latin American operations. Quijano has more than 20 years of materials design experience in Latin America and will be responsible for establishing the Mexico site and overseeing Techmer’s operations in Latin America.

On September 15, Techmer opened an 88,000-square-foot specialty compounding plant in New Castle, Delaware. That site replaces a smaller plant that will be closed in nearby Aston, Pa. The new site has 50 percent more production capacity than the previous location and will allow for Techmer’s expansion into areas such as additive manufacturing and 3-D printing.

Techmer ranks as one of North America’s 30 largest compounders and concentrate makers. The firm has annual sales of more than $200 million.
