Wisconsin-based Premold Corp. started operations at a manufacturing site in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, a state located in northern Mexico, the company announced in a press release.

The plant which operates under the denomination Premold Corp. MĂ©xico SA de CV began pilot production in October and full production in December.

The 20,000-square-foot plant, which Premold leases is the company’s second facility. Its headquarters plant in Oconomowoc, Wis. near Milwaukee, is 68,000 square feet.

Premold makes plastics housings, bezels and enclosures for specialty equipment and the life sciences customers, using a reaction injection molding method known as RIM.

RIM is commonly used for applications like laboratory equipment enclosures and medical carts because they are produced in lower volumes but still need quality surface finishes like conventional injection molding.

Founded 35 years ago, Premold is “North America’s most advanced RIM supplier for specialty equipment,” the company said.

The company plans to export more than half the plant’s output. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.
