Migrating part of the 70 mil hectares of the cane crop in Jalisco for berries, a more productive crop, is the proposition made by the Secretary of Rural Development (Seder), Hector Padilla Gutierrez, at the Aneberries International Congress. The Secretary pointed out that traditional crops should be replaced for value crops to diversify the market and obtain greater benefits. “The surface should be reduced while improving the production per hectare of cane”, underscored Padilla Gutierrez. The Secretary specified that there are constant cycles of high and low prices in the cane production, thus sparking debacle and acute crisis. On the other hand, berries foster productive reconversion, which has worked well in Jalisco.
