Refrigeration chamber to be built in Villa García for strawberry preservation

VILLA GARCÍA - The government of the state of Zacatecas, through Secretaría del Campo (Secampo), built a refrigeration chamber for the conservation of 1 ton of organic strawberry, produced weekly by Sociedad de Producción Rural Los Comanches del Capulín, from this municipality.

Adolfo Bonilla Gómez, head of Secampo, explained that this is an investment made by the government of Alejandro Tello Cristerna to fulfill and give continuity to the infrastructure project for good agricultural practices in strawberry cultivation.

The project began with the rehabilitation of El Capulín dam to incorporate 75 hectares to irrigation, of which 15 have already begun the conversion of sweetpotato to strawberry cultivation with organic quality, achieving a weight of up to 130 grams in each piece.

In the same way, the capture of water in El Capulín dam, recovered groundwater levels in more than 100 open-air water wells from which the water was extracted at 40 and up to 80 meters.

Besides, within the installation of macro tunels, 15 hectares changed the traditional crops to strawberry, achieving good yields, a fact that placed Villa García as the main producer of the Bajío, with 1 ton weekly. This cold room represents a comparative advantage and a price improvement up to 25%.

Bonilla Gómez said that the state government will continue with the certification and corresponding bar code to position the strawberry brand of Villa García

In addition, with advice from the Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences and the Food Safety Project, an organic production scheme is used without the use of chemicals and with cultural conservation work and management of good agricultural practices.
