WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN COAHUILA?

We are experiencing a boom in the automotive industry and this is immediately reflected in our employment situation. Since the 2008 crisis, followed by the industry's recovery, the assembly plants located in the state, as well as their suppliers, have been rehiring and expanding their operating facilities. This can easily be proven just by looking at our employment numbers for 2010, 2011 and this year. You can see that before the 4th quarter we have already created more than 34,000 jobs.
Automotive sales have increased and so has our employment. Regarding other industries we can see that mining industry and especially coal industry growth has been steady. And, we have signed very significant contracts with the CFE. Another thing is the price of our mineral has increased as well.
In the metal mechanic sector, home appliances, plastic electronics and electrical components, there are new projects coming to life in Coahuila.
All together we are now working with 15 new investment projects. All these will be developed in our great State.

WHAT ARE THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OFFERED BY COAHUILA THAT FOREIGN INVESTMENT FINDS ATTRACTIVE?

We are privileged by our geographic location. We share a long 300 mile plus border with the US and something really important is being a day's journey from the major Mexican seaports. Our world class infrastructure speaks for it self . We have great road connectivity. Railroad access is excellent and there are more than 50 industrial parks.
Another factor to consider is the quality of life and another is the low-cost of living. But our main asset, what we really consider a true blessing is our hard working labor force. It is qualified and skilled and capable to compete with workers anywhere worldwide. And if that isn't enough, our competitive labor cost will definitely will make you turn your head towards Coahuila.

CAN YOU IDENTIFY THE MOST IMPORTANT INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS THAT HAVE LANDED IN COAHUILA LATELY?

A new automotive assembly plant is the newest project in our portfolio and it still developing and growing at an incredible pace. There is the Daimler Plant and their supply base and that keeps getting stronger and bigger every month. In the steel industry Deacero is building a production facility that will outrank many production plans in Latin America. And last but not least, our beer production complex, located in the northern part of the state, keeps consolidating and expanding as one of the largest complexes in the world.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN COAHUILA?

There are several consolidated clusters in Coahuila. It is our responsibility to support these clusters and develop them in a way that will guarantee their performance over the long run and avoid their emigration to other states or countries.
As long as we keep investing in R & D, Education, Infrastructure and most importantly Human Resource Development, I believe Coahuila has much to offer in the near future and further on.
