Wholesale sales of heavy trucks in Mexico fell 6.8% during 2017 to 40,756 units. Meanwhile, retail sales decreased 5.2%, going from 44,051 in 2016 to 41,765 vehicles in 2017, reported the National Association of Producers of Buses, Trucks and Tractor Trucks (ANPACT).

Even though in the last 8 years the trend of sales went upwards, 2017 was considered a complicated year for the heavy truck industry, due to the ending of controlled gas prices, volatility in the type of change and the uncertainty derived from the NAFTA renegotiation.

"Last year, higher fuel prices, the rise in the exchange rate and highway robbery impacted the ability of transport companies to renew the fleet," said Miguel Elizalde, executive president of ANPACT.
