Semar to manage airports in Loreto and Matamoros

TAMAULIPAS - The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) informed that it granted Grupo Aeroportuario de la Ciudad de México (GACM), the administration of the international airports General Servando Canales de Matamoros, Tamaulipas and Loreto, Baja California Sur.

According to what was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), the agency specified that this airport group, administered by the Secretariat of the Navy, Armada de Mexico (SEMAR) may administer, operate, exploit and, if necessary, build the General Servando Canales International Airport of Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

This is justified in Article 90 of the Constitution, as well as Articles 3 and 9 of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration, whose purpose is to provide the country with sustainable and competitive airport infrastructure, in those areas where it is required and whose services stimulate the development of air transportation, the development of airports and air navigation services for national and international aviation.

Under the leadership of SEMAR, GACM will provide its administrative experience through its human capital and resources to implement public policies and best national and international practices in airport matters to improve safety in operations.

We will also make the service provided to passengers and cargo more efficient and high quality, as well as promote regional connectivity of the aerodromes of this airport network.

Likewise, security, surveillance and inspection measures will be strengthened in order to guarantee the integrity of users and infrastructure.

This restructuring seeks to contribute to the fight against the trafficking of people, drugs, weapons, illegal merchandise and foreign currency, as well as to eliminate corruption, simulation and any other illicit activity that jeopardizes the correct operation of the airport network under the responsibility of SEMAR.
