The governor of Aguascalientes, Martin Orozco Sandoval, announced that the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) included the state in the General Declaration of the Mezcal Origin Protection.

As a consequence of the inclusion of the state of Aguascalientes, the economy of the municipalities of Asientos, Calvillo, Cosio, El Llano, Rincon de Romos and Tepezala will grow greatly as they will be able to distill, process, pack and market their own mezcal.

The Secretary of Desarrollo Rural y Agroempresarial of Aguascalientes, Manuel Alejandro Gonzalez Martinez, informed that there are 334 local producers of mezcal which, put together, represent at least 4,600 hectares of maguey in the state.
