The chain of burgers Shake Shack, from the United States, plans to arrive in Mexico City in 2019, under the Mexican company Toks, a subsidiary of Grupo Gigante.

"Mexicans will be the first in Latin America to have in their hands a classic ShackBurger, to enjoy more than one bite of this iconic hamburger catalogued by many as one of the best in the world," said the firm in a statement.

The chain will compete in the same market as McDonald's, a company that, while leading the sector, has lost ground to chains such as Carl's Jr. and Burger King.

"For us it is a very special day to be able to communicate our alliance with Shake Shack and we are very proud to introduce this great place to Mexico City and later to other cities in the country," said Juan Carlos Alverde Losada, CEO of Grupo Toks.

The hamburger chain is expected to work with national producers to offer dishes such as ShackBurger, Shack-cago Dog, Crinkle-cut Fries, beer, wine and Frozen Custard.
