The aerospace industry requires skilled labor
MEXICO - Sergio Mancunas Peña, general director of the Instituto de Apoyo al Desarrollo Tecnológico, assured that the Mexican aerospace industry needs to train its collaborators to increase the productivity and competitiveness of the companies, as well as to avoid the “talent drain”.
In a webinar organized by the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA), the expert said that in Mexico there is the necessary talent for the aerospace sector to progress, but he pointed out that this must be boosted from more and new training for collaborators, since technology is advancing faster and faster worldwide and updating is paramount.
“Nowadays we all know that it is not only important the technical part, nowadays and I think that after the pandemic that we had to suffer, it is very important that the personnel we have trained also have leadership skills and emotional intelligence of teamwork,” he said.
Regarding leadership skills, he commented that not only should focus on the technical part, but also that employers should have “this part” of the mind, since we must really have leaders within our organizations”.
“They should help companies to continue to grow and to be more effective and to have their processes more controlled,” Mancunas Peña said.
He added that learning new languages, such as English, is also “paramount” for companies and for workers.
“The language will help us so that workers have the right language and can use the right terms at work,” said Peña.
The specialist's comments come at a time when the international industry has set its eyes on the Mexican Republic, as it seeks to grow the sector in North America. Companies such as Embraer are looking to have a greater presence in Mexico. In addition, with nearshoring, the Mexican industry and the country have the opportunity to grow, according to specialists in the field.
