The plastics industry in Querétaro is facing uncertainty

Given the complex geopolitical landscape, U.S. tariff policies, and the revision of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the industry is focusing on improving its production processes.

The president of the Querétaro Plastics Cluster, François Ouellet, reported that local companies are focusing their efforts on increasing efficiency and productivity to combat the current climate of uncertainty.

The local industry is awaiting the development and resolution of various challenges, such as the progress of the USMCA reviews, which have highlighted the strides Mexico has made in its relationship with its largest trading partner.

“I think that in the sector we’re still waiting; although there are many challenges, we’re still waiting to see how the free trade agreement negotiations will go, because I believe Mexico is a little further along than Canada—Canada hasn’t made much progress, (…) Here in Querétaro, I think that, as a cluster, we’re operating normally, but we’re mainly waiting to see what will happen,” he said.

Once the U.S. elections are over, Ouellet is confident that there could be stability in trade relations and in the U.S. government’s policies; likewise, they are keeping an eye on other factors, such as inflation, oil price trends, and so on.
