Toluca International Airport seeks accreditation from FIFA for the 2026 World Cup

TOLUCA - The 2026 FIFA World Cup will have Mexico as one of the host countries, which is why remodeling work has begun and improvements have been made to the transportation services in the areas that are likely to have the greatest influx of people. In addition to this, airports will also be modified in order to be able to receive tourists and fans.
Among the airports that will see the entry of thousands of fans is Toluca International Airport, which has already begun work to comply with accreditations and be considered a FIFA airport.
"The Toluca International Airport (AIT) is contemplated to be a FIFA airport for the World Cup to be held in 2026," confirmed the director, Admiral José Carlos Vera Vidal.
The admiral interviewed, pointed out that the International Federation of Association Football carried out the corresponding inspections and made known some observations, which have to be addressed in the air terminal during this year and which are focused on security matters.
Likewise, he commented that the things they are missing to obtain the accreditation is the renewal of some security equipment, especially in the X-ray equipment, in addition to the fact that due to the fact that technology has advanced very fast, the observations that were made are minimal.
“We have an international aviation security company, they have already made a tour, they made us see the areas of opportunity we have to increase the security measures”, he added.
He also explained that some of them have to do with anti-bomb devices, which is a threat that is not contemplated as usual in Mexican territory, however, for the organizers of the soccer cup it is essential to have this protocol.
Likewise, the director stated that they have sufficient elements and quality to accommodate the thousands of people that will land at this airport as part of the activities of the 2026 World Cup.
