MEXICO — Toyota announced that it is extending the period of suspension of operations for the production of vehicles and components until May 4th, due to the current scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the fall in demand for vehicles.

In a statement, the company noted that this includes all its plants in North America, which are those in Mexico and the United States.

"Our Parts Distribution Centers and vehicle logistics centers will continue to operate in order to meet the ongoing needs of our customers," the company said. The Japanese automaker reiterated that they will continue to keep track of the situation in order to make the best decisions.

In Mexico, the Ministry of Health reported that up until now, there are 2,785 confirmed cases and 141 people have died from the disease.

Meanwhile, in the United States there are 404,352 positive cases and 13,829 deaths, according to data from Bloomberg.
