Arizona-based wind blades manufacturer TPI Composites today announced its partner Vestas has exercised an option for two additional production lines under an existing multi-year agreement. Full financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TPI will produce blades for Vestas' 4MW turbine platform at its new facility in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in Northern Mexico, which is scheduled to open for production in the third quarter of this year.

The option exercised by Vestas expands the partnership to a total of four production lines, twice the originally planned capacity.

“We are pleased that Vestas has chosen to expand its relationships with TPI with the addition of two lines in Mexico for its 4MW platform,” said TPI President and chief executive Steve Lockard.

TPI has produced wind blades in Mexico since 2002, and currently operates three wind blade facilities in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
