General Electric aerospace division, GE Aviation, plans to build a US$ 400 million plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, to manufacture engine components, El Financiero revealed in recent days citing as source the state governor Claudia Pavlovich.

According to the newspaper of nationwide circulation, the company already broke ground at the Hermosillo Norte industrial park, but no further details were provided.

This is the second major investment in the aerospace sector the Sonora government announces in less than a week along with a German-Mexican joint venture which just broke ground also in Hermosillo o build a US$ 200 million facility.

Both projects are expected to create 3,500 jobs, said state authorities.

There’s currently 60 aerospace companies with operations in Sonora, which places the state as second place in importance. Production sites for doors, fuselage parts, harnesses and turbine components are located mostly in the cities of Hermosillo, Nogales and Obregón, as well as the Guaymas-Empalme corridor.
